- Joseph Taylor, British naval officer, was appointed Captain of the galley Charles in 1703, on which he distinguished himself in service. He was soon thereafter promoted to the Triton, a fifty gun ship patrolling the Channel. He died in 1734. Cf. Charnock, J. Biographia navalis (1794-1798); and Bromley, J. Corsairs and navies (1987).

Printed naval commission, completed in manuscript, appointing Joseph Taylor as Second Lieutenant to the Gloucester, dated 27 April 1694. The document is on parchment, and bears the wafered seal of the Admiralty. The portions completed in manuscript are in pen and brown ink.
