Joseph Taylor, British naval officer, was appointed Captain of the galley Charles in 1703, on which he distinguished himself in service. He was soon thereafter promoted to the Triton, a fifty gun ship patrolling the Channel. He died in 1734. Cf. Charnock, J. Biographia navalis (1794-1798); and Bromley, J. Corsairs and navies (1987).
