Gallery Label:
Burney made several large drawings of this sort, satirizing the manners and pastimes of contem-porary society. Here the subject is an evening meeting of a glee club; the numerous inscriptions scattered throughout the drawing are all titles of popular madrigals and "catches," or rounds. \n\n Gallery label for Pleasures and Pastime (Yale Center for British Art, 1990-02-21 - 1990-04-29)
