The album bears no record of author or date, although the paper is watermarked 1817. The illustrations are of a scientific nature, with no tree specimen drawn in its entirety. Each page of the album depicts one species of tree. For each species a central large illustration depicts a tree twig with multiple leaves, with smaller illustrations at the bottom of the page showing such details as flowers, petals, stamina, fruit, seeds, and cones. Each tree is identified with its Latin and English name. Many identifications are accompanied by short descriptive excerpts from Linnaeus's Species plantarum, in English. Several longer descriptions, up to a full page, are excerpted from John Evelyn's Sylva.
