The base drawing depicts a person's head and upper torso in a decorative oval frame, reminiscent of a miniature portrait painting. The drawing is accompanied by six additional drawings of different dresses with cut out windows in place of the face. The drawings with cut-outs can be laid over the face in the base portrait, in the manner of different outfits on a paper doll.
