The photographer is unidentified.Stamped in ink on front pastedown: "National Gallery of Scotland."Bound in red morocco presentation binding, with gilt ornamental decoration.The nine photographs in the album depict details of Ernest Philipp Fleischer's Panorama of the Battle of Bannockburn, a panorama painted in Munich in 1888 to coincide with the International Exhibition of Industry, Science and Art (1888, Glasgow). The panorama was exhibited in a rotunda at 326-328 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, 1888-1890, at the Scottish Panorama, Manchester in 1892, and at Sauchiehall Street again in 1898. Portions of the panorama now line the walls of the Bannockburn Room and the Bruce Lounge at Peebles Hydro (hotel).The album is gilt-stamped on the front cover: "Presented to Robt. Cox, Esq., of Gorgie, J.P. & D.L. (Chairman of the Scottish Panorama Company,) as a souvenir, and in grateful remembrance of the ready assistance given in most difficult circumstances in promoting the Company, from A.M. Theim [i.e. Thiem]. September 1888." Albert Max Thiem was proprietor of the Peebles Hydropathic Hotel.
