The design is similar (or perhaps identical) to the Silenus jug first manufactured by Minton in 1831, but the present iteration lacks a maker's mark. Minton's design was copied by Mason, Spode, Stephen Green, Doulton & Watts, and Continental companies. See Hughes, Henrywood.

The jug is decorated on one side with a depiction of an elderly Silenus, walking, supported by two older satyrs. The other side depicts a child Silenus, riding a donkey, supported by two young satyrs.
