The case is covered in contemporary black cloth, with later repairs.The shallow folding case is in four sections, each of the sections divided into three columns. The samples are set in vertical rows. The samples are numbered 19698 to 19742, each with notes in black ink on pink paper identifying the name, length and variants of the individual sample. Cost information appears to be recorded in a short alphabetic code.The samples, some with pleats, include material to finish off the neck line, cuffs and fringes with such names as, "ruche encolun," "petit ruche mous," and "brais mous" and include examples made from cotton, silk and a few of woven metal thread.
