"Fifteen lives (including nine boys, some of whom were Scouts and others in training for the Navy) were lost in a terrible fire drama at Gillingham, Kent. A Dummy House, from which the local fire Brigade was to have given a life-saving display, went up in flames without warning, the 'occupants' assembled on the top floor were trapped in an inferno from which there was no escape."
