In the census of 1861, Emma Kate Bleeck, aged 13, is listed as one of three daughters of Martha and William Bleeck (the latter was "Rector of the Parish"). Her sister Ada is listed as age 16. The census of 1911 shows Bleeck and her sister still living together, at the Old Rectory, Froxfield. From 1917 to 1919, Bleeck served the Red Cross, cooking one day per week at the hospital at Hungerford.
