Routledge & Sons, [1884].Osborne Coll. dating accepted; no later than 1901 (date of inscription in Osborne Coll. copy), and almost certainly not earlier than 1899, when Routledge, Greenaway's original publisher, went bankrupt. Schuster & Engen's "[c1888?]" is impossible: "A painting book" was still in print in 1889 or later, under the imprint of G. Routledge & Sons, Ltd.
