"Atlas novus" was first published in a three volume Latin edition by Jansson in 1638 following on from earlier atlases by himself, Hondius and Mercator. The maps in this atlas are the same as those in the 1638 edition, with additions. Jansson also produced the "Atlas novus" in French, German and Dutch editions, each with several variants.

Dedication: Al gran monarca Don Felipe Quarto por la gracia de Dios Rey de las Españas e Yndias &c. Este atlante o teatro del mundo. Aumentado, y de nuevo emendado. Umilmente ofrece e dedica Juan Janssonio, typografo.

Maps bear imprints of Jansson and of "Henrico Hondio."

The title pages to each volume bear allegorical engraved illustrations, with text printed in letterpress on slips affixed to the page.
