Life in England in aquatint and lithography, 1770-1860, 270Cosway created a complementary series of illustrations, also published by Ackermann in 1800, titled: Progress of female dissipation.Aquatints by Anthony Cardon; after Maria Hadfield Cosway. Title leaf engraved byb I. Girtin.Engraved throughout and printed on tinted paper to give a midtone.Fairman, Elisabeth R. Pleasures and pastimes, 36BAC: British Art Center has three copies, all of which are paired with Cosway's Progress of female dissipation. Copy 1 bound in later boards; original printed title label (on blue paper) affixed to front cover. Copy 2 bound (in a single volume) with the dissipation series; bound by Rivière. With hand-coloring. Bookplate of Merton Russell Cotes. Copy 3 is the Abbey copy. Bound in contemporary brown paper boards, with red cloth back and corners.A series of moral illustrations. Consists of title leaf and eight numbered aquatint engravings, all hand-finished. Each engraved plate includes two lines of verse explaining the virtuous task in which the girl or woman is engaged.
