The Round Church was | consecrated in 1185, by Heraclius, Patriach of Jerusalem. The Choir | was added in 1240. The famous recumbent figures of the mail-clad | knights probably belong, with two exceptions, the the thriteenth century. | Traditional names have been attached to them, but they are now impossible of verification. | Three have been, with some plausability, | assigned to William Marshall, Earl of Pembroke, Protector during the first years of Henry III, and his two sons. Archaeologist are still at | issue on the question whether the crossing of the legs necessarily implies | service in the Holy Land. | The Circular form of the Church was copied from that of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre at Jerusalem"

Signed in graphite, lower left: "Percy Thomas"
