Lettered inside plate, lower left: "Published at 47 Queen's Road and 8 Clare Street Bristol by Frost & Reed Dec. 1st 1897"; lower right: "Percy Thomas 1898"; lettered on verso, center: "KING'S BENCH WALK AND THE INNER TEMPLE GARDEN. | KING'S Bench Walk, once entitled "Benchers Walk," took its | later name from offices of the King's Bench having their site | at the Southern extremity. | The present view is of the chambers at ths extremity, | abutting on the Temple Gardens, and within sight of the Embankment | and the River. The unsavoury expanse of mud, which is the memory | of many living once regaled the sight and other senses at low water, | has disappeared for ever, and the hansom-cab flits along where once | the chifonnier and the mud-lark plied thier calling. The village | churches on the opposite bank of the River, crowned by the Surrey | Hills, are now hidden by unromantic factories and chimneys. But the | fresh green tints of well-kept gardens, and the passage to and fro | of the landress carrying water, preserve --and long may they preserve | a welcome touch of rurality amid "the dusty purlieus of the Law." "

Signed in graphite, lower left: "Percy Thomas"
