Lettered, center left: "Epping Forest | Epping with its great trees and labyrinth of paths is | a special week-end haunt of the Londoner and special | cheap tickets can be had on Sundays from Underground | stations east of Oxford Circus on the Central Line and from Aldgate East, Whitechapel and Stepney Green on | the District Line. But there are also other woods - Highgate | and Queen's Woods, only a few minutes from Central | London on the Northern line (Station: Highgate), | Hadley Wood on the Northern and Piccadilly Lines | (Station: High Barnet or Cockfosters) or Burnham | Beeches (Green Line Coaches 704, 705 to Slough, then | bus 441 and, on summer Sundays, bus 474 as well). | Richmond | Richmond is much-loved of the Londoner - a pleasant | place for tea beside the river, for bathing and boating, | and for pleasure trips. Richmond Hill offers an un- | surpassed view over the winding river. In Richmond | Park fox and badger live within sight of St. Paul's . . . | Station: Richmond (District Line). Buses 27, 27A, 33, | 37, 65, 71, 73, 90, 90A, 90B, 111, 235, 265, 270. | Whipsnade | Whipsnade Zoo is a holiday resort for furred Londoners | who roam almost at will in the fresh breezes that sweep | the heights of the Dunstable Downs. Flamingoes add | colour to the scene, wallabies share the paths through | the trees. A special Green Line Coach, 726, runs direct | to the Zoo during the summer months, from Baker | Street. There are also many London Transport bus excursions direct to Whipsnade. | Windsor | Time and affection have made the medieval fortress | into a palace and a royal home. The Round Tower | overlooks the river with its boats and pleasure steamers. | On the other side you can walk for miles in the green | peace of the Great Park. Green Line Coaches 704, 705, 718, 725. Windsor is also visited by one of London | Transport's Conducted Coach Tours and by many bus excursions. London Transport's Country Walks books | give detailed directions for rambles further afield.
