John Willis Good, a student of Joseph Edgar Boehm (whose work is shown elsewhere on this floor), had established himself as the leading sporting sculptor in Britain by the early 1870s. He was best known for his models of race horses, which were often conceived in pairs, as in these bronzes of a horse before and after a race. His career was tragically cut short when he took his own life at the age of thirty-four.

John Willis Good was a student of Boehm (whose work is shown nearby) and quickly established himself as the leading sporting sculptor in Britain, being chiefly associated with racehorses as in this pair of bronzes. His career was sadly cut short when he took his own life at the age of thirty-four.
