Manuscript collection of remedies for ailments in horses, and other household recipes, by an unidentified compiler. Writing is in pen and black ink throughout, in a single hand. Entries are in alphabetical order, and the pages are numbered. The entries end abruptly at the letter G, suggesting that the present pages were once part of a larger work.
Most of the entries concern ailments of horses and are defined in the context "among farriers." Topics include abscesses, alopecia, ambury, blain, bleyme, "an inflammation arising from bruis'd blood between a horse's sole and the bone of the foot;" moon blind, "horses that lose their sight at certain times of the moons;" broken wind, "...to cure this disorder, take the guts of an hedge-hog, dry them & pound them to powder, & give the horse two or three spoonfuls;" dimness of sight; and "farcin, farcy, or fashions in farriery, a creeping ulcer & the most loathsome stinking & filthy disease that a horse can be affected with." There are also a number of entries on pharmaceutical topics, such benzoin, brunella, and golbanum.
Intermixed with the entries on horses are various household recipes and treatments. These include entries on French bread; caement; chian earth; "to have fat crammed chickens;" "to remove frecles;" and "to preserve fruits."
