- Notes:
- The first concerted efforts by the Government towards national patronage and encouragement of painting and the fine arts were directed towards the decoration of the proposed new buildings of the Houses of Parliament. From the evidence and mass of information, it was decided that although the expense would be enormous in supporting such a scheme, the results would be advantageous to both arts and industry. Report contains a paper by Charles Eastlake on 19th century German fresco painting, and a detailed subject index.
