Designed and produced by Ronald King with poetry by Roy Fisher.
Wooden cabinet (numbered) with hinged front and 7 numbered drawers containing history of 7 generations of the King family of printers of Yeovil, Lymington and London, poetry by Roy Fisher, graphic materials, 120 magnetized letters and 64 rubber-stamp letters. Four drawers are designated for 'audience participation' -- introduction to history.
Two photos of the original type box, 2 proofs from the original type, and 2 prospectuses in an accompanying envelope.
Case 1: Hole. Contains a 44 page book, printed letterpress and silkscreen; hand-bound by Karen Bleitz, with an introduction by poet George Szirtes and 4 poems by Roy Fisher. Includes 2 pop-ups and an historical commentary by Edward King. Case 2. Horse. Holds a double-sided sixteen section fold-out print with photomontage silkscreened in 10 colors; 3 letterpress poems, and historical anecdotes with a final essay. Case 3. Drawer containing 50 magnetized letters. Case 4. Drawer containing 60 magnetized letters. Case 5. Rubber stamp reproductions of 64 letters. Case 6. A double-sided display and storage box for use with the magnetized letters. Case 7. Hell box, a poem and pop-up made from surplus material generated during the production of the work.
The box measures 33 x 23 x 23 cm. and weighs 16 lbs. All seven cases are 31 x 22 cm, vary in height, and are hand painted in a black satin finish.
Limited edition numbered 1-56. Fifty sets are for distribution and six are reserved for presentation.
