With a stationer's label on front paste-down: G. Hyde & Co., stationers, account book, sealing wax & wafer manufacturers, 61 Fleet Street, London.
Bound in original plum straight grain morocco, with brass clasp and lock.
Manuscript account book, perhaps in a single hand, kept for the years 1839 through 1851. Items and figures are recorded in pen and ink of various colors, including black, brown, and blue. The accounts are for various members of the Winser family, whose named members include George, Caroline, Edward, Charles, and Eliza. The accounts may have been kept by the mother of the family; the first page of is headed "Mama's account". Domestic expenditures include bakers, butchers, food of all sorts, candles, coals, toiletries, clothing, transport, rents, taxes, chimney sweeps, wages for cooks and servants, and payments made as Christmas Boxes to the lamplighter, scavengers, twopenny postmen, butterman's boy, etc. Also noted are lists of monies received, dividends, and details of family wills.
