Mounted watercolor sketches done by Mary Alexandrina Stanhope (some of them are signed "MAS") between 1875 and 1895. Some of the sketches are done from nature, and most of these are captioned with the location and date the sketch was made, others are copied from drawing manuals, and these are typically labeled "copied." The majority of the sketches are of the villages of Esholt and Buckden in Yorkshire. The captions occasionally provide interesting sidelights on the location depicted or the circumstances in which the sketch was made. The single charcoal sketch has caption "'The twilight hour' My first drawing club drawing", another sketch has caption "Buckden - done with Miss Middleton", and yet another has caption "Aunt Lizzie's rose garden - Esholt - 1886."
