An authentic historical racing calendar of all the plates, sweepstakes, matches, &c. run for at York, from the first commencement of the races there in the year 1709, to the year 1785 inclusive : comprehending a period of seventy-seven years: with an account of the cock-matches fought at York in each race-week for upwards of forty years. To which is added, an account of the races for the royal plates, run for by five years old mares, at Hambleton, York, and Richmond; and of the races that were run at Hambleton from the year 1748 to the year 1757, also of the races from the first commencement of the Gold Cups at Richmond and Doncaster; likewise for the Gold Cups at Beverley. In which is also given pedigrees and performances of the most celebrated race-horses, that have appeared upon the English turf since the time of Basto, Bay Bolton, Flying Childers, Brocklesby Betty, Bonny Black, &c. With an historical account of the most favourite Arabians, Turks, Barbs, English-stallions, and brood-mares. Likewise a complete alphabetical list of the subscribers to the York Assembly-Rooms in each race-week from 1752 to 1777. And an account of the Earls of March and Eglingtoun's carriage-match; of Mr. Shafto's time-match; of Mr. Thornhill's road-match; of Mr. Woodcock's riding 2900 miles; the late Sir C. Turner's leaping-match; fox-chaces, &c. The whole carefully compiled from authehtic materials / by W. Pick of York.
