"In the summer of 1994, forty-four painters, illustrators, designers, animators, printmakers, and sculptors were invited to create a new beast as a way of celebrating the approaching end of the 20th century. These beasts would be collected between two covers under the rubric A millennium bestiary. The brief was simple: devise a beast that symbolises any aspect of the past one thousand years, draw that beast in blank ink on a white sheet of paper no larger than 15 inches by 22. Write an accompanying text of 100 words."--Preface.
With beasts by Chris Hill, Elaine Shemilt, Peter Murphy, Peter Reddick, Andrzei Klimowski, Ansel Krut, Ian Woodrow, Claudio Munoz, Lubaina Himid, Graham Crowley, David Atkinson, Anita Taylor, Nicholas Homoky, Ian Phillips, Richard Anderton, David Hughes, Christopher Cook, Alfred Stockham, Simon Stern, Linda Littledyke, George Tute, Alan R.
