"Essential accessories for the round-the-world hypochondriac. The kit comprises of ship building components for the construction of a sea-faring vessel [i.e small pieces of cork, rubber and plastic in a polythene sachet], safety apparatus for sensible seamanship [the unknown contents of a sealed brown paper envelope] and a triangular booklet, which may be hoisted as a sail, featuring handy nautical hints. A second book of "Rhyming Remedies" is lashed to the mast [i.e. a slender stick of wood, sharpened at one end], poetically suggesting ideal destinations for recovery from numerous ailments."--Facing the page.
Facing the page : British artists' books, p.46
Second Little big books catalogue, 1993-1994, p. [8]-[9]
The kit also contains a small block of wood. These pieces (with the exception of the triangular booklet) are attached to a piece of grey cardboard ornamented with a hand-colored mounted plate depicting an invalid being maneuvered downstairs. The cardboard has been incised twice so as to bear the insertion of a strip of grey cardboard comprising the title and colophon. The kit and cardboard are held in a white canvas bag of nautical design, accompanied by two promotional cards with mounted plates, depicting the work of the artist. The bag is decorated by a hand-colored drawing of a globe surmounted by a boat with a sail bearing a red cross. The bag is secured with white string.
