The discourses form part of book three (leaves [105]-136). Montamellino's Discorso sopra la fortificatione del Borgo di Roma bears dedication to Duke Ottavio Farnese under date of 1568.
Woodcuts: first word of main title, and three chapter titles within ornamental cartouches; Borgominiero's device on t.p. (two disembodied hands, emerging from clouds, holding a caduceus topped by a dove); large white historiated initials; head-pieces; extensively illustrated with large (usually three-quarters of a page or full-page) architectural diagrams, plans, and illustrations of military fortifications, troop formations, and ordnance placement.
