- Notes:
- Manuscript, largely unpublished, for Banks of the Loire illustrated, a work by George Robert Lewis, John James Masquerier, and Rachel Masquerier. The work was evidently conceived as a series in six parts, of which only the first comprising Tours and its vicinity ever appeared. Part 1 is represented in its printed form within the present volume (with Masquerier's manuscript annotations). Parts 2-6 are in manuscript form, including 43 leaves of text and 12 drawings in graphite or watercolor, treating: 2. Orleans 3. Blois. 4. Amboise. 5. Saumur. 6. Angers.
The unsigned drawings and watercolors are presumably by John James Masquerier, whose autograph appears on the front pastedown. Subjects of the drawings include: the source of the Loiret; the Château d'Amboise; the dolmen de Bagneux (Saumur); Angers, from the River Maine; and Les Ponts-de-Cé. Some drawings originally affixed in the volume were subsequently removed.
Though otherwise uncredited, the text is probably by Rachel Masquerier, based on annotations to the printed title page to part 1. - Subject Terms:
