The Advancement and External Affairs department is responsible for all advancement efforts in support of the Center, including fund raising for exhibitions, acquisitions, and programs, and the cultivation of donors, collectors, and members, including Friends of British Art. In addition, the department oversees all aspects of public relations and marketing, visitor services, graphic design, and special events. The department was created by renaming an earlier department, Development and External Affairs. Previously, Development was merged with Public Relations in 2008. Friends of British Art include collectors, scholars, and others who maintain a strong interest in the arts of Britain from the sixteenth century to the present. Their contributions provide vital support for the Center's acquisitions and exhibitions programs.
This collection consists of the Advancement and External Affairs department records from 1966 to 2015. A major component is related to exhibitions held at the Center; this includes flyer designs, invitations, videos, brochures, press clippings, bookmarks, rack cards, visitor reports, and photographs. There are also records related to Friends of British Art. Public relations documentation accounts for much of the collection.
