Notes:
The subject is presumably the Northcote House school in Rugby, Warwickshire. The school is described in the 1872 edition of Bisson's Our schools and colleges: "A limited number of pupils prepared for the Public Schools, the Naval and Military Colleges, etc. The course of Instruction comprises Divinity, Classics, Mathematics, English Literature, French, and German. The School year is divided into three terms. Boys under 12 pay 22 guineas per term; and boys above 12, 28 guineas per term. Principal, the Rev. Charles Houghton, M.A., assisted by resident Masters."
Title from inscription at foot of drawing.
The drawing depicts a large school room, generally devoid of furniture except for "the largest stove" at left and a large closet, and an empty bookcase at right. Also depicted is an open "door leading to gymnasium." Atop the closet are two rugby balls. Written notices are pinned to a panelled wall.
