The album compilers may be Ann or Andrew Cranshaw, of Darwen, Lancashire, England. Andrew and Ann (née Emmison) were married at Darwen on 27 December 1888. In the marriage certificate, both are recorded as weavers, aged 28. At the time of the trip to Scotland they would have been approximately 40 years old.
Title from manuscript title leaf. The photographs are mounted in a purpose-made album, with cover title "The 'Salon' Album." It contains windows for photographs and window-bands for captions. The title leaf and captions are written in black ink.
