Notes:
Includes numerous corrections to the text and 14 separate annotations in the margins. On the dedication page, Sassoon copies in manuscript a poem to Max Beerbohm (not used in the published version): "Ah, what avails enormous sales! ...". As head-pieces and tail-pieces, there are 37 original watercolor drawings by Sassoon, including a self-portrait on the title page; also present are watercolors on the front and back of the printed wrappers. Two photographs are pasted in: on page [8], an image of Sassoon and another boy at Bembridge, Isle of Wight, in 1895; on page 183, a small portrait of J.S. Norman (headmaster at the New Beacon School), 1901.
Laid in are three additional photographs. Two depict Siegfried Sassoon with his brother Hamo and tutor Clarence Haselwood Hamilton (ca. 1899-1900). A third depicts a governess, "Fraulein Stoy." Also laid in is a typescript description of Bromholm (or Bacton) Priory ([2] pages).
