The image is a picture puzzle. It depicts five members of a family on a small farm, beneath a tree. The father appears to call out for the missing cat. The outline of a cat is discreetly delineated by the branches and twigs of the tree.
The scene is related to the Bulgarian Horrors (also known as the April Uprising of 1876). Presumably, the family is forced to flee from the threat of Ottoman forces. The card was probably issued to garner British support for the Bulgarian cause. - Subject Terms:
