Engraved maps or illustrations are printed on the same leaves as letterpress text, with four exceptions: the added engraved title page; a map of Rome, folded at the fore-edge; and maps of Venice and Florence, folded at the inner margin (each forming two leaves of plates). Of the remaining maps, 61 are printed across facing pages, with text printed on the opposite side of the sheet;18 are printed on the same pages as text.
