Notes:
"In 'Family coach' each player takes the name of a part of a coach, for example the harness, whip, wheels; or of someone connected with it, in this case Mr & Mrs Higgins, Brother Jonathan, Man John. Other elements are also assigned to the players - ditch, dog, cat, villa, dog-house. One player then reads out the comic story about the coach, bringing in as many of these people and things as he can, and as often. Whenever a person or thing represented by a player is mentioned, that player must stand up and turn round. But whenever the coach is mentioned the whole company must stand up and turn round. Otherwise, forfeits."--Dorothy Fisher Canfield, What shall we do now? (New York, 1922), page 33.
Written in pen and black ink.
Paper watermarked 1869.
Stitched in contemporary brown paper covers.
Manuscript version of the popular parlour entertainment "The family coach." The text includes a list of the characters and props, and is accompanied by a page of forfeits, and a list of other parlor games.
