With wood-engraved illustrations, by Marcus Ward and Co.
Text printed in two columns.
BAC: British Art Center copy bound in publisher's original gilt- and blind-stamped brown cloth. Inscribed, in graphite: J.W. Murphy.
BAC: British Art Center copy extra illustrated with 42 albumen prints, mounted on 21 leaves, taken during the tour. Most prints are 70 x 95 mm, with two prints mounted per leaf (generally, on rectos only). The photographs document members of the tour, roads taken, towns passed through, graveyards, and campsites. Evidently, the touring party included participants on tricycles and penny-farthings (i.e. a bike with a large front wheel and much smaller rear wheel).
An account intended for inclusion in the columns of the Irish Cyclist and Athlete, whose editor M.J. Mecredy here provides a preface. The riders on the "Singer's ten-in-hand" are identified in the text as Smith (photographer), Mecredy (organiser), Barry, Hayes, Harbison, Alex Mecredy "The energetic", W. Woods of Dundrum, Tuke, Nunns, J. White "the goat" photographer and cook. On the journey of some 400 miles (Dublin-Belfast-Londonderry-Enniskillen-Cavan-Kilmessan-Dublin) they were accompanied by a party of some thirty or forty cyclists on a variety of machines. The "ten-dam" was the only machine to complete the journey. The party included some Scottish riders and it was planned that the following year's tour would be to Scotland.
