- The top half of the print features an allegorical illustration, stipple-engraved by John Samuel Agar, after a design by Maria Hadfield Cosway. Beneath this illustration are eight lines of original verse, in two columns: "While fancy's children give the tints that glow, In the rich stream of Iris' splendid bow, All bounteous nature opes her hidden store; She yields the brittle soil, and harden'd ore, The vital fluid, the vivid flow'r; These, well refin'd, and mix'd by chemic pow'r, Produce those hues that with the rainbow vie, And give to the art the colours of the sky."

Advertisement for Rudolph Ackermann's Repository of Arts, no. 101, Strand, London: "[Ackermann's watercolor paints] will be found upon trial to be free from those destructive imperceptible particles, which occasion those frequent changes of the brilliant hues of colours. They have besides a most peculiar convenience, each cake being stamped with the name of the colour. They are sold in boxes of various sorts and sizes, and in single cakes, as above ... at the undermentioned prices: ... [list of 10 varities of watercolor boxes, and 5 separately sold watercolor cakes] ... Every requisite for drawing, in vellum paper, crayon and chalk papers, crayons, chalk, camel hair, and sable pencils, ivory for miniatures, tracing paper, Indian ink, Indian rubber, stumps, port crayons, &c. &c. Likewise all sorts of coloured, fancy and gold papers, borders, ornaments in gold and white, medallions, &c. &c. used for ladies fancy work; gold size, transparent varnish, and spa varnish for boxes, &c.
