Notes:
Volume 1 (140 pages) comprises an account of a six month tour through France, Switzerland, and an excursion to Milan, undertaken by John Wilson and his elder brother Richard. The tour lasted from April to September 1830, and the brothers would have been aged 24, and 22. It may well have been their first time abroad, as there is certainly nervousness apparent before the crossing to Dieppe. Volumes 2-5 (78, 78, 43, and 184 pages) comprise an account of a two month tour to Geneva, Avignon, Genoa and Turin. Volume 6 (180 pages) is an account of a tour in Sicily and Southern Italy, from March to April, 1832. There is a note on an endpaper noting that a copy of this volume was made by Mrs Eade. This copy is also present (in two volumes), and notes that their traveling companion was William Galton. Volume 7 (126 pages) cover a much later tour of Italy, from May to November, 1846. It is also accompanied by a copy made by Mrs. Eade, with a note therein on the marriage of John Wilson, April 13th 1846.
