Notes:
The first free endpaper is inscribed: "Rome, the 30th March, 1828." The first etching (of the Roman Colosseum) is similarly dated.
Bound in contemporary gilt-tooled vellum, with gilt edges and blue silk endpapers. The upper cover features, at center, a sculptural ornament (probably of ivory) depicting the bust of a young male.
Album of etched views of Rome, and environs, compiled circa 1828 to 1832. The album includes 37 etched views, primary of notable buildings of Rome, including antiquities and Saint Peter's. All images are hand-colored, some brilliantly so. The etchings are all cropped closely to the edge of the image, and mounted on sheets of colored paper, which are inserted onto leaves of the album. All images thus lack captions; one is dated 1832. Also laid in is a watercolor of an unidentified (Roman?) building, possibly a hotel.
