Notes:
"While staying with Shirley Smith and his first wife in the hills east of Rome, Joyce Finzi, widow of the composer Gerald Finzi, was working on a collection of poems entitled 'The division of one is two'. These inspired this series of wood engravings which, without being direct illustrations, added a visual counter-point to the theme of departure which runs through the whole collection. This was the first publication of Shirley Smith's suite of Rome engravings created in 1961."--Moss.
